Our Commitment
The Columbus Asian Festival welcomes all to compete at our annual Dragon Boat Race. Whether you are interested to form a team for your workplace, your organization, your school, or you are looking to get your buddies together to race on the Scioto River, the process is simple. Your first step begins here.
The DBR Committee is dedicated to making your experience at our event the best possible. We wholeheartedly welcome your participation for the good will and the stronger community it fosters. As such, we are committed to working with each team individually, to accommodate your needs and to make your dragonboating experience as fun and as enjoyable as possible.
That’s our pledge to you!
Forming a DBR Team
To start, it’s important to note that anyone may participate in this water sport. The key to moving fast in a dragon boat is team synchronization and technique, and not necessarily speed or strength. The DBR Committee has employed a professional dragonboating company Great White North to oversee all practices and all races. GWN will be your guide. During practice sessions, they will coach your team. They will be present on the race day itself to manage the competition.
A dragon boat team consists of 21 members: 20 paddlers and one drummer. A team captain coordinates with the DBR Committee and attends the required meetings. Team practice is scheduled on May 18, 2019. The race day itself is May 19, 2019.
You can address any question or concerns to Zan Saavedra and Austin Chen. Feel free to email them directly through dragonboatcolumbus “at” gmail “dot” com.
